January 2007

I don’t know what title to put for this post or I’m too lazy to think of one ‘cos my head is spinning while I’m typing away. My mood seem to be more on the low side recently. Certain time of a day, I don’t feel like talking (especially in the early mornings), doesn’t have a really good appetite and I get frustrated/irritated easily. Sometimes I even feel like snapping at people. But I do get back to normal in the late afternoon or evening.

So what is really going wrong?? I’m not too sure, maybe it’s due to the relapse of my reflux. Over the past few years, my body had been loaded with different types of medicine – really sick and tired of this situation! How come I’m always falling sick??? And seeing this kind of news (a young Taiwanese actress died from a severe traffic accident) makes things worse – you get more depress ‘cos you start thinking life is so fragile, you will never know when you’re leaving this world.  So, is there something that can let me feel that life is beautiful and not just filled with depressing or irritating stuff??

For now – back to the reality of a boring work day….

Reflux, which is a gastro problem. Managed to keep my condition under control a couple of years ago after consulting both western and chinese doctors, but now it’s back!!! 😦 I’ll have to watch my diet and keep myself free from stress from now onwards. I’m seriously hoping that this round will not be as bad as the last. I need some luck!!

It’s been raining cats and dogs for the past few days and wil probably remain the same for another couple of days. Since it’s a bit chilly, this patchwork blanket sewn by my grandma many decades ago can be put to good use. Though it’s a bit small for an adult.

Another way of chasing away the coldness is to have a hot cup of honey drink plus a good book such as “Good Things with Martha Stewart Living – Good Things For Organizing” (ISBN-10: 0609805940, ISBN-13: 978-0609805947)

Good Things For Organizing (1)

plus some yummy snacks such as Pocky Sticks! 🙂

Grandma Long Ears (4)

This is a picture book which was written and illustrated by Raman Hui, the supervising animator of the Shrek movies. It shows detailed illustrations done by hand with acrylic paints. This is a heart-warming story written in simple sentences that a four-year-old should be able to understand.

The protagonist is little bunny Bing, who is taken care of by her grandmother while her parents are “busy at work”. Her grandma is the one who cooks for her and teaches her how to run but conflicts occurs when Bing wants to run all over the place, but is not able to as her grandma is too old.

Having grandparents look after their grandchildren is a common scenario in Singapore but I believe it happens in many corners of the world. I’m taken care of by my grandmother since I was a kid and had lived with her for a few decades before she passed away in 2005. Reading this book reminds me of her.

In Singapore, all proceeds from the sale goes to charity organisation Mainly I Love Kids. And in Hong Kong, where this book is also available, the proceeds are donated to YAF to help support local art development among community youth. Read more about this book here and here.

These were my Christmas presents from friends and colleagues. Some really lovely goodies!

Calendars from Angie

And Angie gave me these cute cute calendars. 🙂

Gifts and Munchies

There’s a cute froggy cellphone accessory from my godsister and a set of 2008 Olympic mascot pins from China from my mum’s colleague. Also, I found some interesting munchies from a candy store in town – zigzag cheddar Twisties, Bounty with dark cherry & coconut filling and Violet Crumble. 🙂

This is a bit late…..

I thought there wouldn’t be any celebration since my brother’s family did not come over on Christmas Eve. But look at what my mum bought all the way from Johore Bahru, Malaysia – a coffee logcake from Seasons Bakery! Yummy, yummy!!! The rose wine is from my mum’s colleagues.

Breakfast on Christmas Day

And there’s more – my favourite bread for breakfast on Christmas Day! Yay!!! 😀
